Our War on Waste

JOIN THE BATTLE

As water sports enthusiasts we try our best to look after our playground and want to encourage others to do the same.

Single use plastics are the leading cause of pollution on our coast lines.

OUR oceans are drowning in OUR waste.

 Lets act now!

Not so fun facts...

  • The average person generates over 4 pounds of rubbish every day and about 1.5 solid tonnes of waste per year!

  • In 2009, America alone produced enough waste to circle the Earth 24 times.

  • CIGARETTE BUTTS! - are the most common type of litter found during coastline cleans - followed closely by other single use items.

  • Over 75% of waste is recyclable, and we only recycle about 30% of it.

  • We generate 21.5 million tonnes of food waste each year. If that food was composted, it would reduce the same amount of greenhouse gas as taking 2 million cars off the road.

  • Annual plastic production and use of plastics has risen from 1.5 million tonnes in 1950 to 230 million tonnes in 2009.

  • As much of 70% of marine litter has been estimated to end up on the sea bed.

  • There is a giant floating patch of trash floating in the ocean which is estimated to be twice the size of Texas!!!!! Watch a video on The Pacific Garbage Patch. It's the scariest thing we've ever seen.

  • More than 260 species are reported to be entangled in or have ingested plastics.

  • It is estimated that by 2050 there will be MORE PLASTIC IN THE SEA THAN FISH!!!!

Small Changes YOU Can Make Today

To help save our oceans

Reusable shopping bags

If you’re not already doing this, this is one of the easiest changes you can make.

Funnily enough, paper bags aren't much better, they are still 'single use' and still require lots of energy to produce! Reusables are the best way to reduce your impact.

Don't get caught short - foldaway shopping bags are so handy, they even fit in your pocket!

Check out this great selection of reusable bags here, there is even a folding bag which comes in the shape of a watermelon, yay!

Reusable coffee cups are readily available and can be easily carried arounad in your bag / backpack.

We love the rCup- it is BPA free, dishwasher safe, leak proof and designed for a 10+ years lifetime. Our reusable cup measures 340 ml and will fit in both your car cup holder and under most coffee machines!

It is amazing to see refills stations becoming more accessible in the UK!

If you like filtered water you can always filter it at home and then put it in your bottle.

Insulated stainless steel water bottles will keep your water cold for a whopping 24 hours!

At Venturi our favourite are the Yeti Rambler - ooh they even have a Venturi coloured one!

Say NO to Single Use

Plastic is essential for our everyday lives. However it is the single use items which make up the majority of pollution.

There are so many alternatives available now from bags, cups, toiletries, straws etc and it is so easy to make the switch!

Try to be prepared by carrying containers and cutlery in your bag and always carrying your water bottle.

Everything makes a difference and it so rewarding to see a reduction in the amount of plastic you use.

We all have to do our bit, it's not just down to big companies to make the changes. As consumers we vote with our cash! The best way to predict the future is to create it!

Get involved with local events like the 2 Minute Beach Clean!

Or raise money for a charity that is to protecting our oceans and waterways.
